After graduating with a BA in Accounting from St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, for the first twenty years, I worked in the accounting industry with Penna. Truck, It&T Building Services, and Mt. Carmel Hospital. I started working in the Security Industry with Ameritech’s SecurityLink in 1995. After it successfully grew to become the second-largest security firm in the country, the market leader acquired it. While working for the national company for several years, I noticed that they were not providing customers with service in many cases, and I knew I could fill that gap by offering customized solutions. So in July 2002, I left the job and started my own company, which was a risky decision, but one I had to make.
Within two years, my decision to run solo paid off. I partnered with Alarm.com in 2004 when they were getting started with alarm signals forwarding to the central monitoring station over cellular towers as well as monitoring and controlling security from a smartphone. I was now able to offer customers a security system that had the convenience of controlling their thermostats, locks, lights, and overhead garage doors from their mobile.
Today, many other national companies have developed in-house products or have become a partner with Alarm.com. It has given the consumer many options to choose from, but I have maintained my success thanks to my twenty-four years of valuable experience.
It is also my business philosophy that has given us an edge over our competition. We aim to provide the best service possible to all our customers and make sure to answer the phone twenty-four hours a day for service or emergencies. That being said, we have had only two calls after midnight, and both were handled over the phone. We also provide free service calls for customers with a current monitoring agreement.
I find solving customer issues and giving them peace of mind at home or in their business immensely rewarding. When I get a call from a prospect with a problem, I respond with more than one solution. I’m also willing to travel to service clients and currently reach out to twenty-four countries in Ohio.
Another satisfying part of owning my business is that I can take time off to spend with family. I am immensely grateful to have brought my son, Dayne, into the business. He joined in 2009 as a partner and quickly grasped the functioning of the various equipment we offer. He is also comfortable dealing with customer issues and manages to resolve them with ease.
When I’m not managing my business, I enjoy renovation work. I have a home built in 1860, and I spent a good part of my time upgrading the structure and living areas. I also had a pond dug on the property and stocked with fish, where I spend some time trying to catch them.
